Why did God create sweet-tasting food? Or put another way: why did God create us to associate pleasure with eating sweet foods? Itโ€™s a question Iโ€™ve been asking myself for quite some time, especially in todayโ€™s world where sugar is so vilified, what with keto diet and insulin residence as the root of all physical illness etc.

Iโ€™ve come to a conclusion: God created sweet foods so that we may associate it with His Word and so to teach our young children. Indeed, this is what the Jews do when bringing up children. I want to do this going forward: give my children something sweet every time we gather together around Godโ€™s Word: family devotions in the evening, memorisation of the Bible in the car on the way to school, etc.

How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Psalm 119:103

They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much pure gold; Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.

Psalm 19:10
